Gold plating the Pheonix Strega

Or "How to Stuff a Wild Bikini" Forgive me for for the bad subtitle of a hoaky old Frankie Avelon and Annette Funicello movie but it is appropriate as you will see

These simple inexpensive ARF's has proven to be a major success in the RC Pro Warbird Racing format that is rapidly gaining popularity all over the country.

These are the Rules under which we race:

http://www.rcpro.org/html/rules/warb...cing_rules.htm

Rules are everything and will make or break anykind of competition and these are very successful in the most important aspect, that is getting folks to actualy compete. Closet competitors are everywhere getting them to come out and participate is of course the key.

I think here locally we have around 15 of these airplanes now The last big event in PHX we had 10 of these airplanes mostly with new race pilots from Kingman. One of the keys is this airplane which is easy to fly but more importantly can be successful in all three classes. To date the Strega has proven very competitive in both the bronze and silver.

With that in mind this thread is about gold plating the Strega for the Gold class under RC Pro rules.
Source: RC Hangout http://www.rchangout.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14277

The minimum allowable wing area to use for a 110 fourstroke is 513 square inchs and the Strega is 558 which just comes in under the rules. Just got the engine mounted which was an adventure and there will be some other mods that will be required to withstand the expected G loads of the 150 or better speeds that will be reached.

Will post pictures along the way of the various mods and the first batch in a few hours of what is done so far.

John
