I am planning to buy a heat gun for covering purpose. I am not really sure if is is absolutely necessary go for a R/C heat gun ( specifically designed for covering jobs ) or I can do the same work with a Hair dryer or common heat gun with variable temperature control ( I have seen some of this kind of heat gun on makita, black and decker etc )
What do you think about it
Thanks

Dude, spend the $15 and get a heat gun... Your covering jobs will look $100 better... :) No way a hair dryer can reach the temps a heat gun will plus your wife will have you by your nuts  if you blow up here hair dryer....

I use a heat gun that I bought at Sears for some home "improvement" projects years ago. It seems to work just fine for shrinking covering.

Yea go with the heat gun, but be careful not to burn the covering, I find the heat gun & the heat iron work well as a combo, but if I had to choose one or the other it would be the heat gun.
