i just bought a new engine but before running it (the plane is still being built) in my boredom i noticed a little (little) big a dust inside the cylender head. This is an ABC thundertiger Pro .25 (yes the .25 that exsists nowhere not even in the manual of the engine that describes .36-.61 or in any catolog engines is it real or just an illusion). Is it worth taking the cylender apart to clean (i would be able to figure it somehow). Would they interfier with the "tight fit" ive read about abc engines. Also there was a little liner that looked like it went between the muffler and the cylender head but the instructions ignored it when explaining the boting on of the muffler. I put it on but should i take it out? Once more you people are great your help has "helped" so much while i figure stuff out. And wish me luck with my low wind "trainer" price dictated the arf i woudl get and its a lazy tiger p-51 at least it will look cool when i crash.

I wouldn't worry to much about cleaning the inside of the engine but do make sure it is kept oiled. You may end up doing more harm then good by trying to clean the inside. As for the outside of the engine make sure it is kept clean and free of grass, dirt or whatever expecially in the fins on the cylinder head. If these are clogged with grass the engine will not cool properly and will cause severe problems...

YEA, keep those cooling fins on the head of the engine as clean as poss. But for the most part I just clean my engines up real well at the end of the season.

I would definitely get that dust out. There is a reason for fuel filters!

I would take the backplate and head off at the least and flush that stuff out with fuel...I think it's definitely something to worry about.

Keeping the outside of the engine clean is important, but I think the inside is much more important. Do a search over here or on RCWatch for engine cleaning. There is a great method with a big pot and antifreeze...Makes your engine look like new again! It works great on my TT's...

Wow Brian!! Do you do that to all you new engines??? I think i would blow the dust out, shoot some marvel mystery oil in it, and wrap it up til my plane was finished.

Just my opinion.... you know what they say about opinions!

I clean my engines when they get dirty...If a new engine has dust in it I think it should be taken out, just like metal shavings in an MDS!

ROFLMAO!!!

LOL Cockatoo. Some of us don't live in Georgia. I for one live in the Chicagoland area and the winter snow tends to put a damper on take offs. (Uncontrolled landings however can often be softer with 3 feet of snow on the ground.)
