View Full Version : Aero with eyes & chubba chups
Aviatrix 07-05-2008, 11:38 AM This is a VQ Fire Dragon Fly from Terry at "The Hobby Specialists". I can't wait to see it FLY. Im hoping Wombat can get some time off work so he can take a few picks of it in the air. Also hoping It dosn't star on his crash page LOL. Anyone ever flown anything like this? Im a bit worried about those little wheels tripping up when I land as its too pretty to scuff up. The antenea look just like they came out of Telly Sevalisis mouth, lolly on a stick style.

Hi Aviatrix,I see what you mean now.
I wonder what was in the designer's soup before they dreamt that one up.Chances are,it'll be one of the best flying models in your hangar.
Wombat 07-06-2008, 01:09 PM Aviatrix, I'll look forward to meeting that Dragon. Looks like it will be an interesting flyer. I'll have my camera ready. Try and hold off for another week or 2, then I'll have time off. (Or wait till August when I get 8 weeks off)
But I like it, and I do agree with FF that someone may have been switched the Bok Choy for something else over at VQ Models.
Elijah Brown 07-07-2008, 05:48 AM Me and my sister built something very similar to that from scratch quite a few years back but never managed to make it fly. Looking back though, I think a big part of the problem was that it was seriously underpowered. The plans called for a brushed speed 400 which didn't even come close to getting it off the ground. I upgraded it to a cobalt which got it off the ground, but not far! Anyways, it did manage to make one loop around the runway, flying on the edge of a stall the whole time. With the brushless motors that are available now, I've been thinking of making it go again... it sure looks cute! :prop: I have some pics of it on another computer I'll try to dig up in the morning. I'm interested to see how it flies! Just curious, what's it got for power?
Aviatrix 07-11-2008, 05:29 AM Just curious, what's it got for power?
I think an Eflight power ten. Might be a bit big but its what Ive got.
There is a picture on the side of the box with glow and it lookes like he is smoking a cigar.
Hope you can find those picks Id love to have a look.

Wombat 07-11-2008, 08:39 AM Aviatrix, I think I'm off next Sunday (this coming one is ruined by family events), so you have just over a week to have it ready for the camera.
JohnBuckner 07-11-2008, 05:07 PM This is the original Laddie Mikulasco designed Canadian Bug, wingspan 44 inchs. Ely and his sister built the plans version of this although I called it the Poisinous Bug.
Aviatrix 07-16-2008, 03:21 AM Yep thats it's parent alright. How did it fly? Did many people buy or build them? I will try Google for more info. Cheers,
JohnBuckner 07-16-2008, 04:48 AM Google Laddie Mikulasco and look for the Canadian Bug. I think it won a big east coast electric event called NEAT or something like that in 2001.

Aviatrix 07-28-2008, 08:11 PM What goes up, must come down:crash:
It did exactly as the smiley pilot shows, flew like it was tail heavy, no control, up, up, up, stick wiggling, nothing, still bound as gas off ok, stall and CRUNCH.
CG was corect as per instructions, bat positon checked after it tripped on its wheels twice on takeoff. (could have moved in flight but had lots of velcro on it?) Sad that I didnt see it fly. Im also sorry this happened because it was a gift.
Sorry Wom, wish you were there coz as usual, we wet our selves laughing coz it was so bad there was nothing else to do.
The crash story now involves a giant FLY SWAT coming out of the sky....
Oh well, if anyone can find me film of one in the air Id love to see it.
