3 months into learning to fly RC, back when brushed and nimh reigned suppreem, I saw this Microjet at the LHS, it looked cool and this particular store's only interest at the time was to make a sale without bothering to ask the skill level of the pilot.

I figured, the thing was made out of some pretty tough foam and it came with the esc, speed 400 and servo's pre-mounted, so worse case scenereo if I wrecked it, I could re-use the gear, but I thought I'd get in at least a few flights.

So, here I am, a rather green pilot that can just barely handle a 3 channel, tail feather control bird and I still crash it pretty often, trying to fly this microjet with my parkzone cub battery and a tx with no mixing capacity and that weak speed 400 too boot. Can we say lawn dart??? :) I tossed it time and time again, it refused to get airborn, like the thing had zero capacity for flight, I thought to myself, the design on this one is completely wrong, how could it possibly hit the shelves. I added a couple of oversized canards to it and managed to get in one short flight out of it, wobbly and not in much control, but I forced it to get airborn.

At that stage, I decided this was way too much for me to handle, and I looked at the number of repairs, the massive amount of packing tape and hot glue and decided to let her rest in my hanger, possibly for a later date, or possibly to recreate a new prestine one when I was ready for it. I pulled the gear out, the speed 400 eventually went onto another foamie, which worked out great, the servo's have been in a doesen planes, they have taken major abuse and they still function quite well to this day, the esc fried when I plugged in a battery that was overrated for it though.

A couple of years later I decided to gear it up again, this time using b/l and lipo and skeptical if it would fly due to my experience in the past, I powered her up and tossed her into the air. I still used that original transmitter, yet used an external v-tail mixer. After she took to the air, I was shocked to find it not only flew, it was flying at insane speeds, I was not prepared for it, so it immediately veered going smack dab into a large wall of windows at a school gym. The momentum was too much and I had less then a split second to react, I managed to get some altitude to avoid the windows and just as it was about the clear the roof, I let off on the power a bit, it landed hard on the roof. I was able to get it down, the b/l motor was trashed, but I was hooked on the design.

From there, I geared it up with an even stronger b/l motor and istead of the 9/6 prop, I went with a 7/6, it was even faster now. The v-tail mixer is not optimal for elevon use, at least not at the speed this was now flying at, and I ran out of field very quickly, too quickly for my personal tastes. I got in a few flights and decided to let her rest again, opting to make another jet, for now I was hooked on them.

Last night I pulled her down, stripped out the gear, got rid of the packing tape and took it down to it's bare bones, I chopped the tatered nose section off and am now going to rebuild it, making it look pretty in the process as well. I have some EPP left over from my Zagi xt kit cores, so I'll be using that for the new nose section. I want to show the extensive crash damage prior to the rebuild and that canard mod for kicks, this is a worthy airframe to rebuild, and I'll be looking for an even larger field to fly it at. I also have a transmitter with mixing, so that obstical won't get in my way now.
