Was just wandering if there is anyone out there who can direct me or steer me in the right direction on obtaining any info I can on the Bob Parkinson Baracuda Jet Model I have recently purchased. It is a 1988 Model that has never been flown and is almost finished, with some sanding and setting up on the control surfaces. It is mostly all balsa and light ply. This model is built light and had good care and consideration in building. I am thinking about putting a EVF 14 lb thrust system in this as it will fit. I am looking for the plans and info on the set up with CG and Equipment that I do not have. :3509: . What do you think? Thanks! Tony

Tony: I wish you luck on your quest. I will be watching what info you recieve because I too bought a Parkinson model, the Regal Eagle and I can't tell you when. I have not even opened the box but actually watched the video a couple of months ago.

I would actually like to build it and put some kind of "jet" engine in it. My first problem is to build it. The next problem would be what to power it with, and finally, where I would be able to fly it. I might be able to use one of the two full scale airports nearby, but I would definitely need lots of room and a hard surface runway.

Keep me posted. Later, Floatflyer

those are ok planes and still good all around. The f-15 is a good first plane but would steer clear or turbine. You would need to 'beef' it up alot. electric or IC ok. Had one and it imploded( shay-rc.com b17flyer under jets).. the nose section let go and folded in flight. mine weighed 12.5 lbs w/ byron system and flew fine. both should be around 11-12 when done right. the Baracudda is faster and standard sweep formula should work on cg.

*** important with jets**** since there is no propwash you have nothing to force the nose up. Make sure that the wings have a positive incedence when on the gear 0.5 - 1 degree is all. If 0 or -.01 it will stick to the ground and .....#@!

rcshirt: Thanks for the good comments, but what does "IC" mean? Sounds like the Regal Eagle is sort of a marginal kit, so I assume it would not be a good idea to put an expensive engine in it. Could you recommend a couple of specific engines that would work? I do not need blazing performance for this effort. Good idea about no propwash, I will make sure that I incorporate positive angle of attack.

Thanks again, Floatflyer

IC- internal combustion
any .77 up will fly it, stick with Byron fan it makes a better 1st D/F and provides a lot of static thrust to get into the air.
Carefull of the nose joint to fuse, And you have to fuel proof all exposed wood on the inside. best to put a finish resin epoxy down lightly then fuel proof paint to stay light.
The os line is lighter but those roosi are power full engine. I use a lot of used rossi setups. Then finally the pipe header set up is what will cause a lot of flame outs. so that has to be done right. if you can afford them the weston mini pipes are better and no set-up. avout 150.00 ea

RC Shirt: More good info from you thanks. I have to buy everything mail order due to my locations, looking at Tower Hobbies, they only list DF engines of .91 or greater and nothing for Byron units. Do you have another source for engines and DF unit?

Do you think the Regal Eagle will perform and hold up flying off a dirt strip? No paved r/c strips in my area but I might be able to use a full scale airport that I fly out of. Thanks again, FF

beware of rocks , they take off impeller blades like crazy.
you'll need a filter for the air intake. And you have to buy the large heat sink head if buying a new .91.

look on ebay under "ducted fan" and you'll see whole set-ups for about what you'll pay for just a new engine.
