Keith Mitchell has successfully completed the first two of his 30% Hawker Hunter's test flights. Powered by 2 Merlin 160 jet turbine engines and 5 years in the making.
There's a video of the second flight here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtzD6Yykd9g (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtzD6Yykd9g)

That is a neat plane, about $8000 just in engines is impresive alone. Sounds great too!

Nice Job.

Let's see, her in house, just walked by the computer room.

Hey dear, can I spend $3000 on a model airplane engine?

You :censored: crazy? was the reply.

Guess that means no.

However I did tell her that If that was a riddle. The answer to her question is yes.:D So this means she meant YES. Right guys?

How is it twin turbines with one exhaust outlet? Am i missing something?

No reason why a dual intake pipe can't end in a single outlet.

The jetpipe is actually single; it is a flattened oval at the entry and changes section to a circular section, 5.75" in diameter. The length of the pipe is 4 feet and the cross sectional areas of the duct are designed so as to result in no pipe losses (see photo).

The original pipe was constructed of 0.2mm stainless steel which had to be strengthened with 0.5mm bands and longitudinal strips to combat thermal expansion/suction effects. However after around 2 hours running it began to fatigue and crinkle.

A new pipe was built with 0.5mm steel and although obviously heavier (5.5lb compared to 4.5lb) has eliminated the problems.

Thankyou for your kind comments, Hank. I have att. a file with the spec' and other details. One small point; the model is 1/3rd (33%) scale not 30% - an error which has crept in on the Youtube page.

Further pic's of the construction can be seen on:
www.largemodelassociation.com

Also a series of articles is about to commence in RC Jets International. The aircraft has now had 4 flights and is a beautiful flyer. However, like all models of this size and weight it does have a lot of inertia and manoeuvres and throttle settings have to be prepared in advance. It also has to be watched all of the time as it's covering a lot of ground.

Cheers,
K.
